Abstract
The topic of this paper is greenhouse effects in Australia. This paper argues that we have to act now to solve the global warming. There are four solutions for this problem. The first is that industrialized countries’ power elite must face this problem seriously and should make strong laws against carbon dioxide. The second one is international cooperation to support the nations that reduce the gas emission. The third is forestation to produce the fresh air. Finally, learning from good role model country and propagandas it world wide.

We need a detective “Bruce Willis”

Have you seen the movie “Die Hard”? At the beginning of the film, a policeman is trying to dismantle the time bomb in an elementary school’s gym. Tick, tock, tick, tock…. Many students who are not aware of the presence of time bomb are still there. The police officer is sweating heavily. Time is running towards the catastrophe. We are living with a time bomb, too. The name of this time bomb we are living with is the greenhouse effect. The definition of greenhouse effect is “climate is affected by chemical composition of the atmosphere like in greenhouse” (Miller, 1994, p.107). According to Miller, “small amounts of carbon dioxide, methane, nitrous oxide and water vapor play an important role in determining the earth’s climates”. As the industrialized countries are more produce goods, gases like carbon dioxide are wide spread. Global climate is warmer and warmer, and the effect of gas emission is grower and grower. The world climate is affected by greenhouse effect. Most parts of the world are influenced by abnormal climate. Consequently, many absurd phenomena are happening world wide. Short autumns, more rain, growing level of sea are some parts of deviant weather phenomena. Farmers in Indonesia are confused by the weather, and travel guides in Australia are upset by irregular weather condition. Climate change is a universal happening, and warmer weather trapped in the troposphere is the main cause. No one can deny the green house effect. However, most industrialized countries are emitting carbon dioxide, and global weather is on the way to the edge.
AFP’s article, “Carbon Pollution By Rich Countries Still Rising: UNFCCC” (2006) states that “the industrialized countries increased in gas pollution of 11% in 14 years since 1990”. Especially, US produced 7.067 billion tons of pollution in the same period. According to Wagner (2006), the world economy will be in crisis by global warming on the scale of the world war. In same article, the former chief economist of the World Bank, Stern, warned that rising greenhouse effect was an acute threat to world economy. Besides that, “global temperature change is so dramatic that it is almost equivalent to ice age” (Frew & Peating, 2006). There is no time to hesitate, and now is the time to act. Although we have many obstacles towards environment friendly world, a firm political leadership to reduce gas emission, international cooperation, forestation, and learning from a good role model country are some of possible solutions for such obstacles.
First, industrialized countries’ power elites must face this problem seriously. There have been some efforts to solve this issue since 1990. Nonetheless, we have yet to reach the ultimate solution. Reason that we are not able to make ultimate solution is not caused by ignorance but by economic reasons. The best solution is upon to the rich countries’ politicians. Political leaders in industrialized countries have power to manage this problem. If they make strong laws that can enforce the reduction of gas consumption, they could make the progress. Curtail of gas consumption should not be welcomed by ordinary people. It is related to economic recession. Economic depression is a misery for politicians. A leader in party induced economic downfall will lose their politic power. However, statesman who wants to make a world happy should stand on the front line of gas reduction.
Second, rewarding those countries who try to cut the gas consumption is another good encouraging method. International support to nations which reduce the gas emissions is a fascinating program. Reducing the gas emission means that the nation should curb the economic development, as most of economic activities are based on gas use. If certain country wants to activate the economic condition, it has to consume the gas more. For example, a factory needs more gas to product more goods. Instead, less gas means less profit. For this reason, compensations for loss are necessary elements. International organization, what we call, International fund for nature’s friend (IFNF), should be formed to support these country. A lot of countries want to cut the gas emissions, but few countries want to be poor. Rewards are good carrots.
Third, in Alterman’s article (2006), “Global Warming: Now’s the Time to Act,” he asserts that “there may be time to avert some of the worst disaster”. Although he focuses on “energy efficiency and renewable source of energy that do not burn carbon” to turn away trouble, forestation is more sustainable and manageable method than energy efficient engines. Forest is one of the essential elements to save the world from carbon dioxide trap. Wood lands themselves make fresh air by respiration. Although people know the benefit of forest, deforestation is growing rapidly. About half of tropical forests in the Latin America, Africa, and Asia have already been injured by people (Miller. 1994, p.60). Global planting movement is an effective way to solve greenhouse effect because it can lessen the harm of carbon dioxide. Through the movement, forests can revive from cleared status. Environment friendly education is another good solution, too. Well educated Children will conserve the world well.
Finally, learning from a good role model country is possible solution, too. It might be an effective plan to search model nation that makes an alternative energy consumption system and propagandas it world widely. For example, Sweden has made great progress in gas consumption. According to Kim (2006), Sweden, in 2004, can cut the gas consumption from 69% to 32% during 29 years. Thanks to the slogan “make Sweden without gas consumption till 2020”, Sweden makes a landmark in endangered world environmental history. A little farther on, media like TV, papers, magazines have to publish more article about environment, and acquaint people with the importance of greenhouse gases. We can make a progress and a preparation by knowing good role model. If people are more exposed to information about harm of environmental crisis, they can realize the seriousness of damaged environment more accurately.
In “Die Hard”, the hero Bruce Willis did not appear in gym, but all of elementary students is safe. Because the time bomb is a fake, there is no tragic accident. In contrast, greenhouse effect is not a counterfeit. The icebergs in Arctic and Antarctic are melting, so sea of level has been growing. Many species of animals are exterminated because of diminution of land to live. We live in a real world, and time bomb has activated. Moreover, descendents inherit the world as it is. Naturally, they don't want to inherit damaged world. An Indian proverb said that “we have borrowed earth from the future generation”. We should give back it completely. Absurd weather that we suffer in everyday is maybe a warning from an absolute one. In deed, it is a good fortune that warmer weather can manageable and controlled. As a consequence, a human being should start to act.

Don’t be act like “pseudo - god”

500 Children sit in school restaurant. There is some GM food on the table.
However, they don’t know what kind of food they will. You are the only one who knows the fact. Do you want to notice them that fact? Otherwise, do you want to avoid the responsibility because the food tested by credential health agency. I reject the GM food. According to U.N. health agency’s reports (2005), some genetically modified foods are safe. Nevertheless, I don’t want to believe the safety of GM food. Because we need more time to get reliable consequences, we can not eat GM food anymore. In addition, side effects and prohibitions in USA supermarket are another reasons.
First, nobody knows results. All I’m assuming is that it’s not yet to be seen. In fact, there is consensus that some GM crops are safe. In according to Higgins “WHO study: Genetically Modified Food in Supermarkets is Safe, but New Foods need Testing “, “GM food currently has not caused any known negative health effects”. However, we may face different effects by more experiments.
Second, some side effects of GM food are founded in some Asian areas. In “ BT corn ailments in Mindanao”, Lopez (2004) informs that “Kalapagan residents became weak after eating grilled Bt corn”. Some cases though are not seriously harmful to human beings, we must reject the GM food.
Finally, USA does not sell the GM food and European Union (EU) against GM products. USA is a giant in GM food technology. USA does not want to give their people GM food. Another high technology countries suspect the harmful effects. They don’t know the side effects entirely, but they doubting the GM food. They are just watch that the process in other countries.
In conclusion, GM food might be “Trojan horse” from catastrophe. After invented the new methods in 1972, many of farmers in 18 countries use scientific methods. However, methods that can produce more grains, resist pests may create unwanted consequence. Scientists had opened “pandora’s box” again. A human being should not mimic “pseudo - god”. We must reject all GM food.,

Somebody should Bell the Cat

Do you know a movie “Die Hard”? In the part of beginning scene, a police man is trying to disarm the time bomb in elementary school’s gym. Tik, tok. tik, tok…. Many students who don’t know the existence of time bomb are in till there. Night sweat are dropping follow cheek’s wrinkle of a cop. Time is running toward the catastrophe. We might be live with time bomb. Greenhouse effect is similar time bomb. Global climate is warmer and warmer, and the effects of - gas emission are grower and grower. All people in the word are exposed to gas emission’s bad effects. Most parts of the world are influenced by abnormal climate. The world climate is affected by greenhouse effect. Consequently, many absurd phenomena are happened world widely. Short autumn, more rain, growing level of sea are some part of deviant weather. In AFP’ article, “Carbon pollution by rich countries still rising: UNFCCC” (2006) states that the industrialized countries increased in gas pollution of 11% in 14 years since 1990. US emitted 7.067 billion tones of pollution in the same period. According to WAGNER, T (2006), the world economy will be in crisis by global warming on the scale of the world war. In his 700-pages economic analysis, Sir Nicholas Stern, the former chief economist of the World Bank, warned that rising greenhouse effect is an acute threat to world economy. Besides that, global temperature change is so dramatic that it would competing the last ice age. (Frew W. & Peating S., 2006)

First, there have been some efforts to solve this issue since 1990. However, we have yet to reach the ultimate solution. It is not caused by ignorance but by economic reasons. The best solution is upon to the industrialized countries’ power elites. If they want to face the problem seriously, they can come up with a clue. There in no time to hesitate. It’s time to act. Somebody should bell the cat.
Second, giving a reward those who try is another good encouraging method. International support to nations which reduce the gas emissions is a fascinating program. Reduce the gas emission means that the nation should curb the economic development.
Third, to solve greenhouse effect, world must sustain forestation. Wood land make fresh air by respiration. Sustain and managing forest is one of the essential elements to save the world.
Finally, it might be an effective plan to search a model nation which makes an alternative energy consumption system, and notifies it world widely. For example, Sweden made a great progress in gas consumption. According to Kim J.S.(2006), Sweden, in 2004, can cut the gas consumption from 69% to 32% during 29 years. Thanks to the slogan “make Sweden without gas till 2020”, Sweden will make a landmark in endangered world environmental history.

However the hero didn’t come till explode.

Topic: Currently the U.S. government only provides health care to people who have no incomes. People with low incomes receive no health care insurance unless they get it through their jobs. Should the government have to provide health insurance for everyone?

What is the government’s duty?
A child is crying in a rundown apartment. However, his/her family can’t go anywhere. They don’t have insurance card, and father’s salary is not enough to pay for the hospital cost. Next day is father’s payday, but company will just give meager salary to a janitor. A child is on the way to fatal end. Who can save the child? A vigorous government has to ready to answer this question. Healthy care insurance is one of the most important systems in society. Diseases and ailments can happen to everyone. They come abruptly. Unhappiest medical things in life can be generated beyond wealth-poverty gap. Specifically, the lower income and no income peoples are more exposed to disease than rich people do. Therefore, insurance for health care should be made especially for people with low incomes who don't have enough money to payment, too.
First, health care system for low incomes people is important because the cost of health care is expensive in most societies include U.S. If there is no safety guard about disease, they can’t be treated properly. The range of government health care subject should widen to people who have low salaries. They can’t be excluded from social safety system. One of the government’s duties is to care all of their peoples. Small incomes are not kind of guilty. People who have small incomes should not be excluded from insurance. Having a job can not be a reason for exemption.
Second, lower income and no income people are primal axis of America society. If there are many problems in people’s health, U.S. government may be in significant crisis. No workers, no society. The costs of remedy for low income people may exceed the society’s ability. Because they are occasionally in diseases, health care systems need more funds. However, it’s the kind of government’s duty. In humanity perspectives, U.S. government should take care of their people.
Finally, what suggested in this article is not the unconditional enlargement but conditional expansion. A range of insurance augmentation should be limited in income levels. High income people have capacity to pay for their health troubles. Therefore, government must provide health insurance for people with low income, not people with high income.
In conclusion, the healthy society has many active citizens. High productivity of society is connected with how many stout labors have. A society that wants to be more powerful, stable, and healthy should maintains the health of people. Society is just like a clock. All parts have their roles. People can do best their work in an appropriate health condition. For these reasons, government has to provide health care system to low income people. However, the rich should be prohibited by health care insurance. In addition, an opinion for health insurance enlargement can be supported by humanism. A child of poor people is a child of ours, too. If government don’t take care of them, abandoned child must live with their diseases.

Summary of “Labor will make up for lost time” by Kim Beazley

According to Kim Beazley in his report “Labor will make up for lost time” “John Howard’s inaction, skepticism and backflips on climate change may be a massive threat to not only Australia’s environment, but also economic prosperity.” In addition, the government party has put Australia 10 years behind in environment issues and doesn’t promise into effect a widely national strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emission. John Howard just gives an unreasonable suggestion that “nothing can happen until everyone is in agreement.” Therefore, the prime minister of first opposition party concludes that Labor and Liberal party has a great difference on climate change, and “only future party - Labor party – is facing up to the climate change reality.” Although I recognize that author’s article is a statement which should be announced in daily political offense and defense, I deplore that some of them expressed in this statement are inaccurate and too political.
First, Beazley claims that Howard doesn’t make any tough decisions on climate change and has left Australia lagging a decade ago. However, author does not explain why he chose the word “10 years”. 10 years is a very long period. Many things can be happen during 10 years. At first, the prime minister does not make any important decision, but he will provide the leadership needed to solve the climate changes in next year. In this article, “10” is not scientific figure but impressive number.
Second, the leader of the first opposition party goes on to say that “middle Australia already understands that Mr. Howard is not sincere about climate change.” Climate change produced by greenhouse effect is a world wide problem, not middle Australia. Greenhouse gas emissions affect and threaten world environment. In addition, warmed climate can deteriorate world economy. The cost of corrective for damaged environment will be burden of the world. Beazley disclose himself not as a statesman but as a politician.
Finally, he insists that “Beazley Labor government will establish a long-term national target of 60 percent cuts in Australia’s greenhouse emissions by 2050; increase the mandatory renewable energy target to encourage investment in the use of renewable energy source; and legislate for a clinic change trigger.” Beazley boast that his party will make a decisive solution for greenhouse emissions. As a politician, he can pronounce his political position. Nevertheless, what Beazley established can be an empty word. He claims that 60% cuts in greenhouse emissions and lawmaking for weather fluctuation can be realized in by next 44 years. Although this promise is very attractive, it is just a non refundable promise. Because he does not has power to fulfill his words, he should not bargain a day dream.
In conclusion, I think that there is no time to waste in climate fluctuation. Unchecked global warming is going to ruin not only Australia but also the world economy on the grand scale. However, the author’s article is too exaggerated to gain support of reader.

Summary of “For once, blame the student” by Patrick Welsh

In Patrick Welsh’s article, “For Once, Blame the student,” he argues that American students have to follow the direction of foreign-born classmates because they did not have enough motivation, self-discipline or work ethic than foreign students had. Welsh claims that “us-born kids from upper-class home with highly educated parents” had a string c’ s and d’ s in second-quarter for his senior English classes. In addition, he points out that “Japanese and Taiwanese students study hard twice than American students.” by cites of work of Harold Stevenson and a multinational team. Moreover, he alleges that “kids have convinced parents that it is the teacher or the system that is the problem, not their lack of effort.” Therefore, he concludes that American kids should be blamed.
Although some of Welsh’s claims have certain degree of validity, I think some of them are inaccurate and fruitless. I disagree with the author’s point of view. Specifically, I disagree that American students are lazy, that America has plenty of fund that there is nothing to be blamed except USA students.
First, the author reveals that “falling short of U.S. student’s intellectual potential is their failure to exercise self-discipline.” by quotes of study of Pennsylvania researchers Angela Duckworth and Martin Seligman. However, he does not illustrate the entire contents of their work. Pennsylvania researchers’ work may have contained different important facts. For example, we can suppose that Angela Duckworth and Martin Seligman reported that American parents ask their children more outdoor activity than indoor life in another chapter. This is very unusual phenomenon for foreign parents, especially Asian. Generally speaking, activity in outdoor is more precious than sitting at the table especially in juvenile days,
Next, he states that “failure in the class is tied work ethics, not lack of funding, poor teachers and other ills.” In addition, he indicates that “U.S. kids from upper-class homes have a lower score and have convinced parents that it is all that is the problem, except them.” Moreover, he states “busy parents guilt-ridden over the time they spend with their kids are big subscribers to this theory.” However, this may be a fallacy of hasty generalization. The three cases of whole instances showed by him is his High School’s colleague testimony. He collected data around him. Birds of a feather flock together.
Finally, the author does not suggest any concrete solution to solve the American student’s problem. Welsh insist that “clear majority of problem is not inadequate teachers, boring textbooks and large class sizes but American kids,” Therefore, he urges us to blame U.S. students. However, we need get more abundant and precise investigations to blame only kids. In fact, world is too intricate to blame kids only. The author complains of students without giving the way to solve the issue. I believe that Welsh’s point of view is narrow and not persuasive.
In conclusion, I agree with Welsh’s claim that Americas’ upper-and middle-class students should trail foreign-born classmates. Nevertheless, isolating a single factor and claming that kids are the sole cause of any school problem is not appropriate.

I am starting to think that there is no safe place left to ride a bicycle. When I try to ride on the highway in order to go to school, I feel like a rabbit being pursued by predators. Drivers whip past me at high speed and try to see how close they can get to my bike without actually killing me. When they pull onto the shoulder of the road or make a right turn, drivers completely ignore my vehicle. On city streets, I feel more like a cockroach than a rabbit. Drivers in the city despise bicycle. Regardless of an approaching bike rider, street-side car doors will make nasty comments or shout out obscene propositions. Even pedestrians in the city show their disregard for me. While jaywalking across the street, the pedestrian will treat me a law-abiding bicyclist to a withering look of disdain. Pedestrians may even cross my path deliberately. As if to prove their higher position in the pecking order of the city streets. Today, bicycling dab be the hazardous to the rider’s health.
